Bushman launches 2026 Heavy Duty fridge series with Australia-first 7-year compressor warranty

Bushman Fridges has rolled out its 2026 Heavy Duty Series, upgrading the popular DC85-X (85 L) and DC130-X (130 L) upright 12/24 V fridge-freezers with a new Secop Danfoss Heavy Duty Series compressor — and backing it with a 7-year 12 V compressor warranty, which Bushman states is an Australian first for the category.

Why the compressor warranty matters

The compressor is the component that fails when a 12 V fridge dies, and it’s the expensive one — replacement typically costs more than half the price of a new unit once labour is included. Standard warranty cover across the Australian 12 V fridge market runs two to three years (Dometic, Engel and Evakool all sit in that band for most models, with Engel offering longer cover on some ranges).

A 7-year compressor warranty is a meaningful outlier — particularly for the way caravanners actually use these fridges: running continuously for months at a time, in ambient heat, on corrugated roads, often on marginal voltage from ageing battery banks. Those are exactly the conditions that kill compressors, and exactly the conditions Bushman claims the new Secop Heavy Duty unit is rated for, citing reliable operation at ambient temperatures up to 43°C.

• Compressor: the new Secop (Danfoss) Heavy Duty Series unit replaces the previous standard Secop compressor across the X-series uprights
• Cooling system: revised for the 2026 series alongside the compressor change
• Warranty: 7 years on the 12 V compressor; balance-of-fridge cover unchanged
• Pricing: broadly unchanged at retail — the DC85-X and DC130-X continue to sit in their existing price bands at major retailers

The DC130-X is the volume seller for caravans and small off-grid installations; the DC85-X dominates 4X4 canopy fitouts. Both carry the upgrade.

What it means if you’re specifying a van

Upright 12 V compressor fridges are now the default in Australian-built caravans — the old three-way absorption fridge is increasingly confined to entry-level and compact vans (the Avan Cruiseliner’s standard 90 L three-way being a current example). If you’re optioning a new van or replacing a failed unit, warranty length is one of the few genuinely comparable numbers across brands, and seven years now sets the benchmark.

Worth remembering: compressor warranties are conditional on correct installation — adequate ventilation clearance and correctly sized supply cabling. An undersized 12 V feed that starves the compressor of voltage is the most common cause of early failure, and no warranty covers a fridge that was starved by the installation.
